Fourth of July with the Erquiagas!

Heather loves being "Mommy!" Such a lucky little boy and momma!!!

Collin held the pinecones he had found on an earlier trip to Oak Glen as we drove home!It was so hot in Yucaipa that Heather suggested we go into the mountains to Oak Glen where there is an apple farm. By the time we arrived, it was pouring! We ran out in the rain and cooled uff. It felt wonderful. Collin was happy as long as we were running. When we stopped, he wasn't so sure that his mama and nana were thinking clearly.

With all of our marching and games, a bath was necessary fun! Collin still loves his bath!!!

Collin had many games to play with Nana. We played march. Collin and I marched around the living room and through the kitchen with Collin sporatically telling me to stop. Then, we would change so that I was chasing him through the same rooms. But, the main game of the visit was bouncing on beach balls. We would perch on a small beach ball, holding hands, and fall together. I would say, "I fell down." Collin would respond with, "I fell down, too." The game would then begin again. The next game stemmed from the bouncing game. I was to cover my face in fear as Collin gathered his beach ball and sneaked up behind me to hit me with the ball. My job was to shriek in terror, as he laughed and retrieved the ball for another shot.
Melissa had given me a picture she painted for Collin's birthday. It is very cute with pictures of birds and a big tree. It will look cute on the wall in his room that has a camp theme. Thanks, Aunt Lissa!

Heather called on July 1st to say she had four days off, and it was a perfect time to visit. I left Saturday morning for Yucaipa. Nana can't pass up an opportunity to play with Collin and his parents. I had sent books to Collin and a T-shirt from the Tennis Hall of Fame for Heather. They ppened it with me. Collin was excited!

Diane's Retirement Party!

Let the celebration of 36 years of teaching begin!
Marge, Diane, Ruth, and I are having a good time!
Kristin was very gracious and shared her room at
the Ojai Valley Inn with me. If you haven't been there,
it is well worth the time and expense! From there, we
moved to the Ranch House for the actual dinner. Diane's family and
friends had a lovely time!
Marge and Bob Wilson joined in the festivities at the Ranch House in Ojai!
Above are Diane and her son, Brett, with Diane's good friend Ruth!
Unfortunately, Brett wasn't feeling well and had to leave early.
His wife and baby were home ill, too. We missed them! Sofie and Brandon
came down from San Francisco. It was great to see them again.
It was a wonderful celebration!

Visit with Doreen and Ed

Doreen and I are sitting in front of her Connecticut home!

We have been close friends since our freshman year at UCSB!

Go Gauchos!!!!

Andre Agassi is being initiated into the Hall of Fame in July! Yay! Agassi!!!

Heather is his all-time best cheerleader!!!

Above is a broze statue of a tennis player next to a lawn court and the outside eating area.

Ed, Doreen, and I went to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI.

The building was constructed as an elite men's club for the owners of the mansions.

Tennis made it debut here in the United States. This is one of the lawn courts with the club house at the end. There are four courts which are still used today.

Above is the view from the upstairs terrace at the Breakers which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.

Above is the front of Cornelius Vanderbilt's summer mansion, the Breakers.

This is the back of the Elms. The lawn and terrace allowed for massive parties!

Below is a wooden trunk used to transport the silver.

This was during the Gilded Age, a term coined by Mark Twain, who sarcastically

referred to the wasted spending of the ultra rich.

The owners of the mansions open their summer homes for continuous parties for six to eight weeks each summer.

We visited Newport, Rhode Island and the summer mansions.

We took the "Behind the Scenes" tour at the Elms.

This is the servants' entrance so the servants would not be seen by the many guests.

Behind this structure is the servants' doorway to the laundry room.

If you looked the other way the walk would lead to the extra guest houses.

The servants changed all of the linens everyday! They washed and ironed the sheets and towels.

Collin with his "Silky"

My mommy finally decided that I am big enough to sleep with the "silky"

Nana had it made for me. It is just like the one my mommy, Uncle Trevor, and Aunt Lissa had

when they were little. They, too, didn't sleep without their "silky," and now I have mine!

I sleep so well!!!
